May 1st

in May wind blows, an exhalation,
and all feels as though
it’s on the cusp
of transfiguration

the darker, colder face
of the year has past
the sun, and life,
is just around the bend

we can all release our breath

spring comes quick and
bright as a sunrise,
jays and sparrows,
ants and plants,
sing and stretch and dance its praises
