I fall in love with all my friends

they call it falling in love,
but it’s more like landing
in love,
and frolicking and lounging in the soft lush fields of love
because it’s a comfortable and safe and easy place to be
i think of my friends laughing or smiling and i’m in the fields again

i think we have the capacity to land in love with anyone
sure, my friends, who are so individual and have
flavors i could drink in forever
(isn’t life such a feast?)
and who show me new ways to love them every day

or the lady i sat next to in the fast food restaurant, &
who complimented my style and told me she was from argentina
or the dude at the post office, who calls me “miss” and always hums to the radio
or people jogging with their dogs
or my study group in bio 104
or or or or or

love’s the most important thing in the world, and it can hold you in its arms if you let it, and it’s high time i get with the program and start frolicking in the fields, damn it!
